The Trebuchet Plant! – Creation Minute 3

The Trebuchet Plant!

The remarkable Bunchberry Dogwood plant currently holds the record as world’s fastest plant!

bunchberry 3

This explosively quick pollinator owes its speed to a built-in trebuchet! A what you ask!?

A complex catapult like the ones used to launch large objects in the Middle Ages.

The North-American Bunchberry stands only one-tenth of an inch tall, so it needs to send its pollen up and out!

Bunchberry 2

To catapult its pollen, bunchberry flower petals open, each petal is separated and flipped backwards, almost instantaneously (in less than half a millisecond) the stamen unfurls, catapulting pollen into the air, sending it off to pollinate other bunchberries.

Exploding bunchberry dogwood

This causes the pollen to be subjected to 2,400 times the force of gravity!

Building this plant trebuchet took careful planning and complex design, testifying to the creative designer, God who created all things. Did you know that this Designer is Jesus Christ?

For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him: Colossians 1:16

How vast is the sea of God’s design that surrounds us!

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness. Psalm 48:1

Fantastic Fingernails – Creation Minute 2

Fantastic Fingernails

Have you ever considered the amazing design of the fingernail?

Every tiny detail of the human body has been created with a purpose. How many of these purposes are we aware of? How many do we take for granted?

We have fingernails (and toenails) to protect our fingers and toes, like little, tiny hardhats.

But why do fingernails when torn tear across the nail instead of down towards the nail bed?

Scientists have found that it takes twice the energy to cut nails lengthwise compared to crosswise.

Nails are made of 3 layers of keratin specifically arranged:
The top and bottom have randomly packed fibers to give the nail it’s strength.
The middle layer holds the key to crosswise tearing with keratin fibers running parallel to the base of the nail.

God in His wisdom, takes special care of even the smallest details for our lives: even the way the fingernail tears!

Maybe we should stop and take a moment to thank God for our fingernails, toenails, and the countless other blessing He has given us in the design of the human body.

Thou hast granted me life and favor, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit. Job 10:12

Kirk Cameron to Keynote, Host Film at the 31st Annual CHEA Homeschool Convention

Kirk Cameron

Does anyone else love this guy?

Here is some information about the event provided by CHEA.

Due to today’s controversial educational climate, more parents are looking for a Christ-centered educational choice. Homeschooling has become the method chosen by many parents. Inquirers, newcomers, and veterans alike will gather at the Disneyland® Hotel for California’s biggest homeschool event May 29-31, 2014. The Convention is hosted by the Christian Home Educators Association (CHEA) of California, the only statewide Christian homeschool advocacy organization, working on behalf of homeschooling year round for 32 years.

Kirk Cameron as Keynote Speaker, a free Mini Conference for New Homeschoolers, a high school graduation ceremony, the Themes in Focus Feature, a huge Exhibit Hall, a Used Curriculum Exchange, and family-friendly Disneyland® will make the Christian Home Educators Association’s (CHEA) upcoming 31st Annual Convention your family’s vacation destination.

Kirk Cameron, actor, homeschool dad, and CHEA Member, will provide a Keynote address Friday evening at the Convention and will host a free screening of his movie, Mercy Rule, for attendees.

Steve and Annette Economides, America’s Money-Smart Family, and Dr. Brian Ray of the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI) will be our other Keynote Speakers, joined by Andrew Pudewa of the Institute for Excellence in Writing as Featured Speaker.

A new feature this year is a free Mini Conference May 29 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. with Keynote Speaker Dr. Brian Ray. He will speak from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on “Just the Facts, Ma’am: Homeschooling Works.” After the Keynote Session, a free Introduction to Home Education will be held from 6:35 to 8 p.m. plus free entry to the Exhibit Hall Preview from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Attendees may attend either or both of the first two sessions (Keynote, Intro Session), but in order to participate in the third session (Exhibit Hall Preview), attendees must attend the Free Introduction Session.

Our new Themes in Focus feature highlights subjects that attendees have indicated are most important. These will include beginning homeschooling, special needs, high school and beyond, preschool, family life and finances, and worldview. This year’s nearly 70 workshops include something for all homeschoolers, from beginners to veterans.

No CHEA Convention is complete without the nearly 200 exhibit booths in the Exhibit Hall including curriculum, college prep, colleges, ministry, teaching resources, and more. Thursday evening is the Grand Opening of the Exhibit Hall (Convention registration required). There will be nearly 50 individual exhibitor workshops where you can get more specific information on curriculum and other products.

This will be our 3rd time to be a participant at this exciting event! It is always a tremendous blessing to meet more Christian homeschooling parents and their children as we get the opportunity to speak about God’s creation, science, and history. If you see our booth, please stop by and introduce yourselves. Hope to see you there!

Dinosaurs Amongst the Flowers – Creation Minute 1

Dinosaurs amongst the Flowers

Did you know that the fossil record clearly shows that dinosaurs walked among flowering plants such as poppies, rhododendron and pachysandra?

Evolutionists claim that plants have evolved over the eons and that the first flowering plant did not come into existence until after the dinosaurs, but secular paleontologists have found that dinosaurs lived amongst many of the same plants and flowers that are still around today!

Dino and flowers

Plants in the fossil record show little evidence of evolution through time! Most of these plant and dinosaur fossils were created by the catastrophic worldwide flood of Noah’s day, not slowly over millions of years!

We do not find plants changing over time because God created all plants on the third day of the Creation week! There has been plant variation throughout the last few thousand years, but this is simply variation among the created kinds. There is no fossil evidence of one kind of plant changing into another.

Dinosaurs really did tiptoe through the tulips!

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And the evening and the morning were the third day. Genesis 1:12-13

And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:24, 39
